Seventeen Western Cape women meet the viewer through new large-scale photographic portraits at 33BREE, each accompanied by her own story. As She Is asks visitors to encounter individuality, confidence, dignity and presence before reducing anyone to a label or stereotype.

The portraits use soft light, considered composition and timeless styling while leaving disability visible where it naturally appears. Look at how each image makes room for a whole person rather than hiding disability or turning it into a story of limitation, struggle or triumph.

This Western Cape chapter marks the Bold Beauty Project's first African exhibition, and local participants, photographers and collaborators made the new body of work together. Co-curator and mentor Marlene Le Roux helped shape that collaboration for a Women's Month presentation within the HEAT Arts Festival.
