In Slavery's Wake brings historical material, visual art, photography, film and interactive media together at the Iziko South African National Gallery. The exhibition examines the continuing effects of slavery and colonialism alongside the ways Black communities made and sustained freedom.
The Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture leads the international Global Curatorial Project behind the exhibition. Cape Town is the third stop on its global tour.
