About
The Open Book Festival is Cape Town's flagship literary weekend, built around some sixty events across three days at the Homecoming Centre in District Six, the venue formerly known as The Fugard Theatre. It draws South African and international writers for panels, readings, book launches and conversations, and works to nurture reading among the city's youth.
The 2026 programme features writers including I.O. Echeruo, Gabeba Baderoon, Sue Nyathi, Kopano Matlwa and Krystle Zara Appiah. Most events are ticketed through Webtickets at R50, and booking is required even for the free sessions.
