About
Kala takes its title from an isiZulu imperative that means 'weigh it' or 'measure it'. Simphiwe Buthelezi uses that command to question how systems of measurement assign value.
Spheres, topographies and concentric circles recall celestial maps, geological formations and tools of navigation. The works move between inherited knowledge and imagined futures, calculation and intuition, matter and memory.
