About
Difret follows the true story of Hirut Assefa, a fourteen-year-old Ethiopian schoolgirl who faces a murder prosecution after resisting an abduction for forced marriage. Lawyer Meaza Ashenafi takes on the case and challenges the structures that sustain gendered violence.
The screening forms part of Zeitz MOCAA's Pan-African Film Caravan with the African Film and Media Arts Collective and BMW. A communal conversation led by the museum's curatorial team follows the film.
