About
SALA takes its name from a word shared across several Nguni languages. In the parting phrase sala kahle, it asks the person who remains to 'stay well'. The exhibition turns that invitation toward seventeen artists in Zeitz MOCAA's permanent collection.
Storm Janse van Rensburg curated SALA with the 2023 Zeitz MOCAA and University of the Western Cape Museum Fellows. Seating, sensory attention, an exhibition guide and playful map-making encourage visitors to linger while questioning who the museum serves and how people occupy it.
