About
The Goodman Gallery was founded in Johannesburg in 1966 by Linda Givon and is one of the oldest and most significant contemporary galleries in Africa. Under apartheid it deliberately operated as a non-racial space, and Givon built the early careers of artists including William Kentridge, David Goldblatt, David Koloane, Sam Nhlengethwa and Sue Williamson.
The gallery opened its Cape Town branch in 2007 and today runs spaces in Johannesburg, Cape Town, London and New York. Its programme is politically engaged and pan-African, and it continues to represent leading South African artists alongside international names.
The Cape Town gallery sits on Somerset Road in Green Point, near the De Waterkant and Waterfront gallery cluster.
